(09/10) Als The Birthday Massacre vor fünf Jahren auf der europäischen Bühne erschienen, schlugen sie ein wie eine Bombe.
Mit ihrem Geheimrezept aus verführerisch eingängigem Synthiepop, Wave-Elementen und einem gepfefferten Industrialbrett, trafen die Kanadier den Nagel auf den Kopf und sorgten für frischen Wind, wie kaum eine andere Band.
Nicht zuletzt dank ihrer energiegeladenen Bühnenshows um Frontwirbel Chibi, gehören The Birthday Massacre live zu den heißesten Acts der Szene.
Nicht minder beliebt sind ihre Alben und von den Eröffnungstönen von -In The Dark- bis zur Spieluhrmelodie im Schluss von -Secret- wird offensichtlich, dass der Band mit -Pins And Needles- ihr bisher bestes Album gelungen ist.
Alles klingt noch ausgefeilter und satter produziert als zuvor, das Zusammenspiel von Gitarren und treibender Rhythmusgruppe, die atmosphärischen Keyboardklänge und über allem Chibis bezaubernder Gesang finden auf -Pins And Needles- zu einer perfekten Einheit.
Den letzen Feinschliff am Album legte übrigens Produzent David Ogilvie an, der bereits durch seine Arbeiten mit Skinny Puppy, Marilyn Manson, Killing Joke und etlichen weiteren einen legendären Status hat und hier beweißt, dass er seinen guten Ruf zurecht genießt.
